Biomedical Lifescience (PTY) Ltd. is based on a rich history of Craniomaxillofacial osteosynthesis reaching back as far as 1995. Our in depth experience in the manufacture and distribution of CMF products goes back to the very beginning of titanium CMF principles at Leibinger to Synthes/AO and most recently the state-of-the-art range of Medartis CMF products.
The BMLS team has a combined history of more than 50 years in the global/South African CMF market and we have learnt from the very best in the global industry. We are still of the generation which not only preaches “Education” but also facilitates it through renowned organisations such as the AO and now IBRA (International Bone Research Association).
We are proud to distribute the Medartis range of CMF products in South Africa and because we take our mission seriously, we have only added a few other handpicked fringe products to complete our offering to the CMF market and our patients.
Biomedical Lifescience is fully SAHPRA licensed, Crice registered where necessary, BBBEE Level 4 compliant and we only offer genuine CE certified product

Nicolene Baumgartner - CEO
Nicolene’s career started as a Psychologist but she soon moved her focus to Medical Devices at Synthes. She grew her sales territory with the Synthes CMF range exponentially year after year and knows the South African CMF market in depth. She later headed Presbivision and then started Biomedical Lifescience as the official agent for the J&J Depuy Synthes CMF range in South Africa. Together with her highly experienced team she built that business to repeated double digit growth over six years. With the departure of the Depuy Synthes CMF range from the South African market, Nicolene has replaced the Synthes range with the state-of-the-art Medartis CMF range. Nicolene has fifteen years of dedicated CMF experience and she is passionate about CMF principles, her customers and their patients.
Amanda Marais - Sales Administrator
After qualifying as a nurse and gaining valuable experience in general wards and theatre, Amanda has spent the past 24 years in the Medical Device industry. Here she has multifaceted experience in all areas of business administration and stock control. Amanda has sixteen years of direct experience in administrative processes required for the CMF business and brings a wealth of knowledge to BMLS. When she is not herding the BMLS Sales team, Amanda enjoys cooking, reading and fishing. She adores animals.
Frank Del Valle Arocha -
Sales Executive Eastern Cape: Frank studied Medicine in China where he qualified in 2019. Through his extensive travels all over the globe, he is fluent in English, Afrikaans, Mandarin and Spanish and has an in depth understanding of various vastly different cultures. Frank joined the corporate Medical Device industry in 2021 where he applies his medical background to promoting specialised medical solutions and principles to his colleagues and their patients. Frank is a passionate member of the BMLS family in the East Cape.

Rex – BMLS Security Officer
Rex joined BMLS in 2021 and heads up the security team. He also assists Amanda in collecting Accounts Receivables and is very persuasive when following up on outstanding paperwork and administration from the rest of the team. Rex also assists Karabo in assuring the timely awards of tenders from time to time. Rex has very good ball skills and practices his goal keeping talent regularly in his spare time.
